Hope begins with a single step.

Join the Hike for Hope

Join the Jane Goodall Hike for Hope — a nationwide fundraising journey that turns hope into action for animals, people, and the environment. On Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, 2026, choose your own route and join Canadians hiking across the country. All funds raised support community-led conservation and youth-led environmental projects through the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada.

For decades, Dr. Jane walked — through forests, jungles, and savannahs — touching the hearts of people around the world. She encouraged everyone to create a world where animals, people, and the environment could all thrive.

Now it’s our turn to walk for her.

With the Jane Goodall Hike for Hope, people across Canada are invited to lace up, step into the outdoors, and raise funds to ensure Dr. Jane’s work can continue for generations.

Let's walk in Dr. Jane's footsteps together.

Dr. Jane always said that hope isn't passive.

She said that hope was something we created through our choices, our compassion, and our courage — even in the face of big challenges.

And with the Hike for Hope, every step you take turns that hope into real and lasting change.

We're inviting people across Canada to join this movement and connect with the natural world. From our youngest trekkers to our most seasoned adventures, everyone is invited. Whether you’re located downtown, in the countryside, or somewhere in between, hike wherever you choose.

On October 3rd and 4th, 2026, in honour of the anniversary of Dr. Jane's passing, hikers across Canada are going to take to the trails — demonstrating that collective effort creates lasting impact.

It's time to hike!

When you hike, you are supporting:

Rescued chimpanzees, who are getting the care they need.

When you hike, you are ensuring more than 150 rescued chimpanzees at Tchimpounga Sanctuary can continue receiving the individualized and specialized care they need. Together, we can make sure our closest animal relatives get the second chance they deserve.

Community members, who are leading conservation projects in countries across Africa.

When you hike, you are ensuring our team can keep partnering with community members who protect forests, create sustainable incomes, implement nature-based solutions to climate change, and much more.

Young people, who are leading environmental projects across Canada.

When you hike, you are supporting more than 14,000 young leaders who build school gardens, develop composting programs, plant native plants, and more through Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program and our A.P.E. Fund microgrants.
